Jim Jarmusch’s all-star portmanteau flick showcases tense family relationships and emotionally distant parents. With Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling and Cate Blanchett.
This triptych shines a spotlight on the awkwardness of parent-and-grownup-child relationships, and the guilt, sadness and — sometimes — closeness involved. The three dramas take place in the US, Dublin and Paris, with a cult, all-star cast including Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Mayim Bialik, Cate Blanchett and Charlotte Rampling.
Enjoy tales of estranged siblings, a mystery unfolding in a lock-up of parental possessions and an ageing father (Tom Waits) whose poverty might just be fabrication. Like all the best Jarmusch films, this is perceptive, sad, but blackly funny stuff.
