BAR TRASH creature double feature: THE KILLER SHREWS + THE GIANT GILA MONSTER
THE KILLER SHREWS is celebrated for the kind of dimestore creativity that causes palpitations in the hearts of those with impeccable cinephile good taste… THE KILLER SHREWS was last mentioned but never shown at BAR TRASH for being one of the so-called ‘Worst Films of all Time’ in Harry and Michel Medved’s seminal if problematic book, ‘The Golden Turkey Awards’ (1980). The film features dogs dressed up as giant rodents savaging the occupants of a wooden shack and was shot somewhere outside of Dallas. Truly iconic.
THE GIANT GILA MONSTER is about a giant lizard that begins threatening a rural Texas community, eventually bearing down on a local dance hall where the town's teenagers are gathered for a sock hop. With plenty of cool kids, cool cars, and ersatz rock ’n’ roll sung by the movie’s star, Don Sullivan, this is one monster mash you will definitely want to bop along to!
Polite notice: We are showing THE KILLER SHREWS + THE GIANT GILA MONSTER with subtitles from the best available digital sources. There will be one intermission between the two films. Please note, these low-budget creature features were made according to the animal welfare standards of their time.
BAR TRASH is a celebration of cult and curious cinema, hosted by queer film fanatic Token Homo and friends. Films are served with themed drinks, introductions, intermissions, prize giveaways, and subtitles / captions where possible. Adults 18+ only.
