Volunteers at Hidden Beach

Being part of a shared cultural practice

Hidden Beach is shaped by the people who gather, care, listen, make, welcome and hold space together.

Volunteers are not simply helping something happen — they are part of what makes Hidden Beach what it is. They support the conditions for connection, creativity and care, and play a vital role in how the programme feels, flows and is held.

Volunteering at Hidden Beach is an invitation into a shared practice of hosting, listening, learning and supporting others.

What volunteering involves

Volunteers support different parts of the programme depending on interest, availability and comfort. This might include:

  • Welcoming people into spaces and helping them feel at ease

  • Supporting artists, facilitators and speakers

  • Helping prepare, hold and gently close sessions

  • Supporting food, film and workshop spaces

  • Offering presence, attention and practical help where needed

No two roles are exactly the same, and we aim to match people with roles that suit their interests, energy and capacities.

Who volunteering is for

Volunteering at Hidden Beach is for:

  • People who enjoy being part of shared cultural spaces

  • Those interested in music, culture, learning and community

  • People who value care, listening and cooperation

  • Anyone curious about how cultural programmes are held and shaped

You do not need prior experience in events or festivals. What matters most is reliability, kindness, awareness and a willingness to learn.

Why volunteering matters

Behind every meaningful cultural experience is a network of care — people noticing what’s needed, supporting each other, solving small problems quietly and helping spaces feel held.

Volunteers are part of that invisible work.

By volunteering, you become part of a culture of care and shared responsibility, helping create environments where people feel welcome, safe and able to participate fully.

What you’ll gain

Volunteers often tell us they gain:

  • A sense of connection and belonging

  • Insight into how cultural programmes are created and held

  • Opportunities to meet artists, facilitators and other volunteers

  • New skills in communication, hosting and coordination

  • The experience of being part of something meaningful

We aim to make volunteering a reciprocal experience — not just something you give, but something you are part of.

Practicalities

  • Volunteering takes place during the Hidden Beach Summer of Culture (31 July – 31 August 2026)

  • You can volunteer for as little or as much time as feels right for you

  • We offer guidance, support and a gentle orientation for all volunteers

  • We aim to be flexible and responsive to access needs

If you have specific needs, questions or concerns, we’re very happy to talk them through.
