Remi Vibesman

Remi Vibesman discovered his passion for music at the age of nine, when his parents took him to Festac ’77 — the month-long World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture in Lagos, Nigeria. That landmark event featured over 16,000 participants, including Fela Kuti and Stevie Wonder, and left a lasting impact on his musical path.

He began his career in the industry by founding WaxCity Music, a vinyl record store in London. This evolved into the launch of several independent record labels — Big Cheese Recordings, Freshmess on Wax, and Phat Vibes Recordings — pushing the sounds of independent soul, acid jazz, trip-hop, nu-jazz, and hip-hop onto the international scene. As a recording artist and DJ, under various aliases, Remi’s work earned the support and airplay of leading DJs including Norman Jay and Soul II Soul’s Jazzy B.

Today, Remi is the founder of HiddenBeach, an events collective based in Hastings. HiddenBeach promotes a wide array of genres including Afrobeat, Brazilica, soul, funk, jazz, disco, and house, and collaborates with both local and international artists and DJs to foster a vibrant and inclusive music community.

In addition to his musical work, Remi is also known for his fundraising efforts. He has completed three 24-hour nonstop solo vinyl DJ sets in Hastings, raising money for Samaritans, Children in Need, and Band of Brothers. It is widely recognised that he holds an unofficial world record for the number of 24-hour vinyl-only DJ sets performed.

From Lagos to London, and now Hastings, Remi Vibesman’s journey reflects a lifetime of passion for music, community connection, and charitable action.
