The Listening Room: Poetry & Spoken Word

  • A shared listening space for words, stories and voice

Listening Room is a gentle, hosted evening of poetry and spoken word, held inside a relaxed bar setting as part of the Hidden Beach Summer of Culture programme.

The bar remains open throughout the evening, but the focus of the space shifts toward listening, presence and shared attention. A small number of invited readers will share short pieces, and others are welcome to read or speak if they wish. Silence, listening and stillness are actively welcomed alongside words.

Rather than a performance or open-mic night, this is a shared listening experience — a chance to pause, listen and be with language together in a social, informal environment.

    What the evening includes

    • Short poetry and spoken word pieces from invited contributors

    • Optional open sharing for those who wish to read or speak

    • A hosted, lightly held structure to support listening

    • A relaxed, respectful atmosphere inside a social space

This is not a slam, competition or critique session. It is a space for language to be offered and received with care.

    Who it’s for

    • Adults and young people aged approximately 16+

    • Anyone interested in poetry, storytelling and listening

    • People who enjoy reflective cultural spaces within social settings

No prior experience is needed. You are welcome to come simply to listen.

    Why this session matters

Even in busy, social environments, people need spaces for reflection, voice and meaning. Listening Room offers a way to bring depth, attention and shared experience into everyday places, helping create moments of connection, empathy and understanding within the flow of social life.
