Families & Children

Hidden Beach Summer of Culture

Hidden Beach is a shared cultural programme for people of all ages, and families and children are warmly welcome at many parts of the Summer of Culture.

Across the month there will be a range of family-friendly sessions including music, storytelling, creative workshops, movement, film and shared meals — offering opportunities for children and adults to explore culture together in relaxed, welcoming settings.

Some events are designed specifically for families and children, while others are more suited to adults or older young people. This page shares general guidance to help families feel informed, supported and confident when planning their visit.

Age guidance

  • Many sessions are suitable for children and families.

  • Some events are designed for adults or older audiences and may not be appropriate for children.

  • Each event listing will include age guidance where relevant.

Children and young people under 18 should be accompanied by a responsible adult unless an event is clearly marked as suitable for independent attendance.

Family-friendly sessions

Family-friendly activities may include:

  • Music, storytelling and listening sessions

  • Creative and making workshops

  • Movement, play and embodied activities

  • Film screenings with appropriate age ratings

  • Shared meals and food-based gatherings

These sessions are designed to be inclusive, gentle and welcoming, supporting shared experiences between children and carers.

Film screenings

Films are shown with standard age ratings and content guidance.

Please check the age rating before bringing children to a screening, as some films will be suitable for adults or older audiences only.

Safety and care

We aim to create spaces that feel safe, calm and well held.

  • Children should remain with their parent, carer or supervising adult at all times.

  • Parents and carers remain responsible for their children during all activities.

  • Our team and volunteers are present to support the environment and respond to questions or concerns.

If you ever feel unsure, overwhelmed or in need of support during a session, please speak to a member of the team.

Access and comfort

We aim to make our family-friendly spaces as accessible and welcoming as possible.

If your child has specific access needs, sensory sensitivities or support requirements, you are very welcome to contact us in advance so we can do our best to support you.

Practical notes

  • Some venues may have limited space, seating or facilities — details will be shared per event.

  • Food and drink are available at some sessions or nearby venues.

  • Please respect the shared nature of the spaces and support a calm, considerate atmosphere for everyone.
