KIN Choir / Voice Lab

This free ticket invites you to join Kin Community Choir, an open, un-auditioned community singing space for women, non-binary and gender-queer folks, and to take part in a relaxed, informal public sharing at Waves Unplugged on the beach at Bottle Alley on Saturday 9 August as part of the Hidden Beach Summer of Culture.

Please note: To take part in the Waves Unplugged sharing, participants will need to be available for some of the Kin choir sessions in the lead-up. You do not need to attend every session, but regular participation helps build the shared songs and confidence needed for the beach sharing.

Kin is designed as a welcoming, inclusive space where people can discover their voice, sing together and build confidence through shared practice. The emphasis is on listening, blending, presence and participation rather than technical perfection or performance.

Sessions include gentle vocal warm-ups, breathing, listening, simple harmony and shared songs, creating a supportive environment where people can explore their voice at their own pace. There is no pressure to be “good”, no expectation to perform, and no requirement to attend every week — people are welcome to come when they can, stay for as long as feels right, and take part in whatever way feels comfortable.

Weekly sessions

When: Mondays, 5:30pm–7:00pm (no pressure to stay the whole time)
Where: Joyful Roots, Hattons Yard, Hatherley Road, TN37 6LB

What sessions include

  • Gentle vocal warm-ups and breathing

  • Simple exercises exploring pitch, rhythm and harmony

  • Learning and blending shared songs

  • Listening and responding as a group

  • Space to build confidence, connection and shared sound

Waves Unplugged sharing

In August, members of Kin are invited to take part in a gentle public sharing at Waves Unplugged, a relaxed acoustic gathering on the beach.

Date: Saturday 9 August 2026
Location: Bottle Alley, Hastings (on the beach)

This is a celebration of the process rather than a polished performance — a chance to sing together in a beautiful public setting and share what has been explored.

Who it’s for

  • Women, non-binary and gender-queer folks

  • Adults and young people aged approximately 14+

  • People with little or no singing experience

  • Anyone curious about voice, singing and shared music-making

Why this matters

Singing together supports wellbeing, builds confidence, strengthens listening and creates a sense of belonging. Kin offers a gentle, accessible way for people to experience these benefits and become part of a shared creative process.
