Kasai Masai

Kasai Masai bring the heartbeat of the Congo to Tribute to the Diaspora, live at Printworks. Expect a luminous collision of soukous, rumba and high-energy dance grooves powered by interlocking guitars, talking drums and irresistible call-and-response vocals. This is music engineered for movement: quicksilver seben guitar lines spiralling over deep bass, percussion that snaps like kindling, and choruses that lift the whole room into chorus.

Rooted in village rhythms and urban Kinshasa swagger, Kasai Masai bridge tradition and the global dancefloor. Their show fuses ancestral percussion with contemporary stagecraft, inviting everyone—first-timers and seasoned dancers alike—to find the beat and stay there. One minute you’re swept into a polyrhythmic cyclone; the next, you’re gliding through sweet, melodic rumba that feels like a warm embrace.

For Tribute to the Diaspora, the band craft a special late-night set that celebrates migration, memory and joy. Expect drum processions that snake through the crowd, call-outs that turn the audience into a choir, and breaks that detonate into full-blown dance eruptions. Printworks’ concrete-and-steel architecture becomes a kinetic instrument: every clap amplifies, every footstep answers the drums.

Come early, bring your crew, hydrate well, and wear shoes that forgive. There’ll be moments to raise your hands, moments to catch your breath, and moments you’ll want to film—but the best bits will live in your bones. This is a living ceremony for the city: a salute to Congolese roots, Black Atlantic creativity and the futures we dance into together.

Kasai Masai at Tribute to the Diaspora—rhythm-forward, spirit-lifting, unmistakably live. When the beat drops and the guitars start to sing, you’ll understand why this band turns rooms into carnivals. With support from Hidden Beach residents on the decks, global grooves frame the night; doors open late, the vibe is inclusive, and the dancefloor is open to everybody all night.
